About Lesson
Types of reciprocating pump
a. Single acting reciprocating pump:
- Such pumps have one discharge stroke for every 2 stroke of piston.
- The water is delivered during alternate strokes.
- Piston is provided with airtight leather washer and moves up and downward.
- Two valves are provided, inlet valve and plunger with discharge valve.
- When the piston is pressed, the inlet valve closes and discharge valve opens and water trapped in between two valve goes up from discharge valve.
- When the piston is pulled up, the inlet valve opens and discharge valve closes and water comes into cylinder through inlet valve.
b. Double Acting Reciprocating Pump:
- It is constructed with piston valves so arranged that water is pumped on both inward and the outward movement of the pistons.
