About Lesson

Land Grading:

  • It is the reshaping of the field surface to a planned globe.
  • It is necessary to control the flow of water to check soil erosion and provide surface drainage.
  • Essential to ensure uniform distribution of water under the surface method of irrigation.
  • Land grading operation may be divided into 3 phase:

a) Rough grading:

  • It is the removal of abrupt irregularities such as mounds, ridges and dunes and filling of pits, depressions and gulley.

b) Land Levelling/Land grading/Land Shaping/Land forming:

  • It is the reshaping of the land surface to a planned grade.
  • Requires moving of large quantities of earth over considerable distance.
  • Levelling operations leaves an irregular surface due to damping the loads.

c) Land smoothening/Land floating/land planking:

  • Here, irregularities left from levelling operation are removed and a plain surface obtained by a land smoothing is done.
