Indicators for planning irrigation scheduling .

  1. Soil indicators:

a. Gravimetric method

b. Tensiometer method

c. Moisturemeter method

d. Feel and appearance method

 

  1. Plant indicators:

a. Appearance of growth:

  • Shoot and leaf wilting, yellowing of leaves, dropping of leaves, rolling of leaves.

 

b. Leaf temperature:

  • Infra-red thermometer installed on leaf.

 

c. Leaf potential:

  • The lesser the pressure to release water, the more frequent the irrigation should be done.

 

  1. Meteorological indicators:
  • Irrigation can be scheduled to a crop if evapotranspiration and depletion in the root zone known.
