About Lesson
Advantages of Sprinkler system
- Surface runoff is eliminated or minimized.
- Erosion can be controlled.
- Uniform application of water.
- Reduced cost of land preparation.
- More land available for cropping as borders and ditches are not required.
- Small streams of irrigation can be used efficiently.
- Crop damage from frost can be reduced.
- Time and amount of fertilizer can be controlled.
- Soluble herbicides and fungicides can be used with irrigation water.
Disadvantages of Sprinkler system
- Energy requirement is high. (0.5-<7 kg pressure)
- Wind may distort sprinkling pattern and affect the uniformity of distribution.
- Pressure is high than necessary,
- Costly method.
- Formation of hard pan in soil may occur.
