Genus : Isosporalcystisopora

  • Isosporalcystisopora contain many species that parasitize wide range of host.
  • Species of isospora in mammals have been re-classified as cytisospora based on absence of stieda bodies in their sporocysts.
  • Life cycle differs from Eimeria in three aspects:
  1. First, sporulated oocyst contain two sporocysts each with four sporozoites.
  2. Secondly, extra-intestinal stages occurring in spleen, liver and lymph nodes, as found in pig, may re-invade intestinal mucosa and cause clinical signs.
  3. Thirdly, rodents may become infected after ingestion of oocyst from dog and cats with asexual stages and act as reservoirs.
