Genus : Haemoproteus
- Members of this genus are parasites of birds, reptiles and some amphibians
- Very common in domestic pigeons, turkeys and ducks
- Vectors are usually louse flies (hippoboscids) and midges (Culicoides).
- Gamonts present within erythrocytes are usually elongate and curve chalter-shaped/ around host cell nucleus
- Merogony takes place in endothelial cells of blood vessels, specially in lungs.
