Direct evidence

• This type of evidence clearly and directly related the proof of an existence of a fact without any inference.
• Example if suspect has had no known contact with animal, yet fibers from his carpet are found on animal, this could be considered direct evidence.
• Despite all the information that can be gleaned from evidence, best characteristic of physical evidence is that it cannot lie. Though it may be misinterpreted or analyst may be dishonest about the test results, but physical evidence always tells the truth.
• They can be large or minute and may require processing at the scene or packaging for processing later at laboratory.
• Depending on type of physical evidence, it may not be always necessary to collect item. Sometimes documentation with photographs and sketches may be sufficient.
