Characteristics of Physical evidence

  • Two characteristics of physical evidence that should be understood by forensic veterinarian and pathologist are transience and transference.
  • Transient evidence includes elements of the scene as findings on body that are temporary and can change wetness of blood stain, odors, condensation on glass and temperature are examples of these types of evidence. Rigor mortis, algor mortis and wet hair coat are likewise examples of transient evidence on the body.
  • This evidence offers situational information particular to the moment in time at which scene or body is first encountered, but this evidence will change with time.
  • As they are very characteristic, they should be documented expeditiously ( with speed and efficiently). These should be done as soon as arrival on scene or after acceptance pf body into custody.
  • Though these types of evidence doesn’t help in solving crime, they help to clarify details.
