Varieties

On the basis of the temperature requirement Turnip is classified into two groups;

a) European or Temperate type varieties

b) Asiatic or Tropical type varieties

Temperate varieties

• Purple Top White Globe, Snow Ball, Golden Ball, Early Milan Red Top, Pusa Chandrima Pusa Swarnima etc.
• In Nepal only one temperate variety Purple Top White Globe is popular for cultivation. It is a heavy yielding variety.

Asiatic varieties

• Local Red Round, Pusa Kanchan, Pusa Safed, Pusa Sweti etc.
• Pusa Kanchan is a selection from a cross of Asiatic (Local Red Round) and European (Golden Ball) varieties.
• It contains good qualities of both the parents. It sets seeds in the plains. Pusa Swati is a very early maturing (45 – 50) days variety
