Climate

  • Potato is cool season crop but is moderately frosts tolerant.
  • For germination 8 °c is ideal.
  • Day temperature of 30-35 °c and night temperature of 20-25 °c is ideal for proper growth and for tuber formation 18-20°c is ideal.

 

Soil and field preparation

  • Well drained sandy loam to clay loan soil rich in organic matter having ph 5_7 is ideal.Alkaline soil favors the development of scab disease.
  • SOIL preparation generally divided into two parts. first I of all deep ploughing of 20-30 cm is done and disliking and FIELD is reploughed and leveled with ridge and furrow ,proper spacing is maintained.
