Fertilizer recommendations

This is the last phase in soil testing.

Basic philosophy of fertilizer recommendations

I. Increase the lower nutrient content of soil to higher levels by adding extra fertilizer nutrient.

ii. Apply maintenance amount of plant nutrients to higher testing soil to keep the productivity high.

iii. Not to apply specific nutrients which are already in higher amounts in the soil.

DRIS (Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System)

  • It is a comprehensive system which identifies all the nutritional factors limiting crop production and in doing so increases the chances of obtaining high yield by improving fertilizer recommendation.
  • In this approach, nutritional status is calculated and recommended based on consideration or other relevant factors of soil properties and others.

Features of DRIS

➢ All factors suspected of having an effect on crop yield must be defined.

➢ The relationship between the factors and the yield must be described.

➢ Calibrated norms must be established. The relation which his found must be calibrated (either increase pH or decrease if any must be correct) i.e. must be shifted cropping pattern.

➢ Recommendations suited to particular set of conditions and based on correct and judicious use of these norms must be continually refined (time to time check).
