Disease caused by worms
Dactylogyrosis:
- Causative agent is dactylogyrus vastator
- Found only on the gills of fish and known as gill fluke.
Disease symptom:
- Fading gill colors ( turns yellow)
- Gill necrosis
- Loss of gill functions and cause partial suffocation
- Excessive mucus secretion on the gills and skin
- Fish becomes lethargic, swim near the surface, seek the sides of the pond and refuse food.
Control:
- Pond treatment with dipterex @ 0.2 ppm
- Drain the pond and disinfect by quicklime
- Dip treatment with malachite green 1:15000 for one minute
- Bath the diseased fish in 2.5% common salt solution for 1 hour.
- Use 0.7% common salt for indefinite treatment
- Dip diseased fish in 5% acetic acid for 1 minute.
