Care and management

  • Selected brooder fish should be examined periodically for their condition and for progress in maturity and freedom from parasites and diseases infection.
  • In case the condition of the brood fish is not satisfactory and they are emaciated, the stock should be thinned out or the rate of supplementary feeding increased suitably.
  • Sometimes gonads fail to develop properly due to factors such as inadequacy of proper food, unfavorable ecological conditions or genetic defects.
  • Filling in the brood fish ponds with fresh water, and some replacement of standing water periodically during summer months, is highly desirable.
  • In the event of any serious parasitic infections, the brood stock has to be suitably treated or replaced.
