Pathogenesis, signs and symptoms of Protozoal infection in insects

  • Have low virulence (chronic infection) that often does not kill an insect.
  • Infected insect frequently does not exhibit marked external signs and symptoms (e.g. color changes and abnormal movement or behavior).
  • Infected insects become chlorotic or whitish, are reduced in size, and remain in the immature stages much longer than the uninfected individuals.
