Coliform omphalitis :
Omphalitis is a non-contagious infection of the navel and/or yolk sac in the young poultry .
Signs :
- Navel inflammation
- Anorexia
- Reduce weight gain
- Increased mortality in 1st 2 weeks after hatching.
- Infective arthritis is revealed by lameness in birds with hock joints most commonly affected. Pus is seen in the articular cavity with emaciation and air sacculitis. In air sacculitis, there is inappetence, emaciation, respiratory distress, coughing and wheezing.
- In panophthalmitis, one eye becomes blind with hypopyon (pus in eye), Most birds die shortly after onset of the lesion.
Differential diagnosis :
- Mycoplasmosis
- Salmonellosis
- Fowl cholera
- Staphylococcal arthritis
