Selection of housing location for pig

• Site should be at an elevated place.
• Should be protected from the sun and have ample fresh air.
• Away from residences.
• In case of large-scale pig farm, well connected to roads throughout the year.
• Facilities for manure disposal, connected to reliable water and electricity sources.

Construction for a good pig house/ shed.

a) Floor size: 3×3 m

b) Floor raised 60 cm above the ground.

c) Floor board have spaces of 2 cm between them.

d) Roof should be rain proofed.

e) Good ventilation and ample shed.

f) Constructed in east-west direction.

g) Floor Space Requirements:

• Fattening Pigs: 10-16 sq.ft per pig
• Fattening pigs in yards: 30-40 sq.ft per pigs
• Farrowing pigs: 60-80 sq.ft per sow and litter
• Boar pens: 40-50 sq.ft per pig
