Planting methods

I. Dibbling of roots: Most common and cheapest method though it is little slow method. Turf is separated to the goups having 4-5 grass pieces and planted at prepared land at 10-15 cm. apart both from hill to hill and row to row.

II. Seeding: Not much popular method. Seeds are broadcasted during windless day @ 20-30 Kg/ha. After broadcasting slight rolling is necessary, use sprinkle irrigation after seeding.

III. Turfing: Turf of desired (Hardy) size, uniform thickness with thin layer of soil is made from the place where grass is compact and free from weeds. These pieces are uniformly spreaded on the ground. Slightly beating (pressing) and liberal watering is done after placing the turf. Grass starts growing in short period. In sloppy land, where soil conservation is the basic aims it will better to use turfing rather than seeding and dribbling.

IV.  Bricking: Used to fill up the space in already prepared lawn, also used to replace the few unhealthy patches in well maintained lawn.

V. Turf plastering: Paste is prepared by mixing gardens soil, fresh cow dung and water. Bits of chopped fresh roots and stems or rhizomes of selected grass are mixed with this paste and the paste is spread evenly on the surface of the prepared ground after moistening the soil. The paste is then covered by spreading 2 cm of dry soil.
