Climatic requirements

  • Requires moderate temperature, bright sunshine, and high light intensity for better flower production.
  • The optimum day temperature of 25 0C and night of 15-16 0C is considered best.
  • Similarly, early morning sunshine for 6 hours is ideal for flower production. Hot and cold blast of wind is harmful for roses.

 

Edaphic requirement

  • Well drained, clay loam soil with adequate organic matter.
  • pH 6 to 7.2 is ideal for rose.
  • Soil should be deep having good water holding capacity with proper drainage.

 

Site selection for rosarium

  • Site should receive early morning sunshine for 6 hours.
  • Site should be open and well drained but not shady
  • Area protected by hedges, fence or building against strong winds is ideal.
  • Deep soil profile of at least 45cm.
  • Site should be free from cold and hot wind flow.
