Basic consideration for the nursery enterprise establishment

a. Climate and environmental biology of the plants:

  • A good knowledge of the prevailing climate, topography and soil of the given area is very important for planning horticultural enterprise.
  • The analysis of the climatic, physical, biological and the environmental attributes and patterns of a given area, and the knowledge about the biology of the plants and their optimum environmental requirements are the fundamental aspects for planning of any horticultural enterprise.

b. Environmental manipulation:

  • If natural environmental condition is not optimum manipulation of growing environment is necessary i.e. growing on controlled environmental condition like green houses, propagating
  • Manipulation may be fully controlled or partially controlled.

c. Support infrastructural development:

  • Another important consideration is the presence or absence of supporting infrastructures in and
  • around the area or the site where horticultural enterprise is to be established.
  • Roads, transportation, communication, grower’s cooperatives, cold storage facilities etc are necessary for the movement of the products from the points of production to the point of consumption.

d. Socio-economic and market analysis:
