Bulky organic manures
- Bulky organic manures contain little amount of nutrients and they are applied in large quantity
- Different types of bulky organic manures are:
- Farm yard manure
- Composed of dung and urine of farm animals along with remaining fodder and litter
- It contains 0.5 % N, 0.2 % P and 0.5 % K
- Compost
- Mass developed after the rotting of organic matter is called compost
- Farm compost contain 0.5 N, 0.5 % P and 0.5 % K
- Town compost contain 1.4 % N, 1 % P and 1.4 % K
3.Sewage and Sludge
The solid portion of waste is known as sludge The liquid portion of waste is known as sewage They are rich in nutrients as compared to farm yard manure and compost
- Vermi compost
- Vermicompost is developed using earth worm
- The earth worm consume organic matter and excrete it as cast, this casting is known as vermi compost
- On an average vermi compost contain 3 % N, 1 % P and 1.5 % K
- Poultry manure
- It consist of excreta, litter and left over refuse of poultry feed
- It is very rich in nutrient contain than many bulky manures
- On an average it contains 3 % N, 2.6 % P and 1.4 %K
- Sheep and Goat manure
- They contain penning and left over feeds of sheep and goat
- Sheep and goat manure contain 3-1-2 % NPK respectively
- Green manure
- To restore fertility and productivity, some crops are turned into soil while they are green, this practices is known as green manuring
- Plants of leguminosae are generally used for green manuring
- Example: sunhemp, dhaincha, sesbania and cowpea
