About Lesson
GENE CLONING VECTORS
- Cloning specific segment of DNA into another organism (vectors) to form RDNA molecules, which can be propagated in suitable host cells.
Properties of good vector
a) Able to replicate autonomously
b) Easy to isolate and purify
c) Easy to introduce into the host cells.
d) Should have suitable marker genes that allow easy detection.
e) Identifiable (or) selectable from those transformed by the unaltered vector.
f) Should contain unique target sites for as many restriction enzymes as possible.
g) Should contain suitable regulatory elements like promoter, operator, ribosome binding sites.
