Reaction to test protein in lab

a) Biuret test:

  • Formation of violet coloration confirms the presence of protein.

 

b) Xanthoproteic test:

 

c) Millon’s test:

  • Phenolic group of tyrosine and protein react with mercuric sulfate in presence of sodium nitrate and sulfuric acid to give red color.

 

d) Ninhydrin test:

  • Presence of violet color confirms presence of protein
