Vegetative terms

  1. Forage: Edible parts of plants, other than separated grain, that can provide feed for grazing animals, or that can be harvested for feeding.
  2. Browse: Leaf and twig growth of shrubs, woody vines, trees, cacti, and other non-herbaceous vegetation available for animal consumption.
  3. Herbage: The biomass of herbaceous ( non-woody) plants, other than separated grain, generally above ground but including edible roots and tubers.
  4. Sward: A population of herbaceous plants, characterized by a relatively short habit of growth and relatively continuous ground cover, including both above and below ground parts.
