Introduction
- Pasture establishment is the first and basic of many stages which determine the growth and consequences production of pasture.
- Establishment can be defined as the period between sowing seeds and the emergence of the seedlings capable of continued, normal growth.
- It mainly covers two components, seed germination and seedling growth.
- The success of establishment depends on the quality of the seed sown, soil, environment and method of establishment.
- New pasture could be established to
a) renew run-out existing pasture
b) Introduce new species
c) Build up soil fertility as part of the rotation in a defined cropping pattern.
