Traverse Plotting

After correcting the observed bearings, traverse plotting can be done using two main methods:

A. By Parallel Meridian:

  • Select a point A on the paper and draw a line representing the north (meridian) through A.
  • Plot the bearing of the line AB using a protractor and its length according to a suitable scale.
  • At station B, draw a north line parallel to the one at A.
  • Plot the bearing of the line BC and its length using the same scale.
  • Repeat this process for all stations along the traverse.
  • If the traverse is closed, check for any closing error, which must be adjusted graphically.

B. By Included Angles:

  • Select a point A on the paper and draw a north line (meridian) through A.
  • Plot the bearing of line AB with a protractor and plot its length to scale.
  • At station B, plot the included angle <B, then plot the distance BC to the chosen scale.
  • Similarly, plot the included angle at C and the line CD.
  • Continue this process for all stations.
  • As with the parallel meridian method, if there is a closing error, adjust it graphically.
