About Lesson
Chain Surveying
Principle of Chain Surveying
- Based on the “Whole to Part” principle: Control points are first established (control survey), and details are then filled in.
- Utilizes triangulation: The area is divided into well-conditioned triangles.
- Well-conditioned triangle: Internal angles between 30° to 120° (Ideal: Equilateral triangle, each 60°).
Suitable When:
- Surface is level
- Area is small
- Formation of well-conditioned triangles is easy
Not Suitable When:
- Terrain is uneven
- Area is large or has many details
- Difficult to form well-conditioned triangles
