About Lesson

Introduction

  • Agribusiness—-Agriculture + Business (Any business activities related to agricultural production).
  • Agribusiness is the sum total of all activities involved in the manufacture and distribution of farm supplies, production activities on the farm, storage, processing and distribution of farm commodities and items made from them (John Davis and Gold berg).
  • Gold berg and John Davis of Harvard university first used the term agribusiness in 1957.
  • Agribusiness can also be defined as all the business enterprises or transaction to farmers, traders, consumers.

 

 

Transaction may involve either inputs or a produce or service and includes items such as

  • Productive resources (feed, seed, fertilizers, equipment, pesticides, fodder, machinery etc.)—–Input sector.
  • Agricultural commodities (raw and processed commodities of food and fibers)————Farm sector.
  • Facilitative services (credit, insurance, marketing, storage, processing, transportation, packing, distribution, etc.)——-product sector.

 

It can also be defined as the branch of agricultural economics which co-ordinates among the farm input suppliers, producers, processors, distributors, storing of farm commodity.
