Terminology related to sheep
- Crone : Old broken mouthed ewe kept in breeding stock beyond the normal time because of her excellent breeding performance.
- Diamond Ram : Uncastrated Ram between 1st to 2nd shearing.
- Fleece: Entire coat of wool as it comes from the sheep or while still on the live animal.
- Flushing: Increased plane of nutrition of ewes before mating to increase the multiple births.
- Gimmer : Yearling ewe i.e. sheep of 1-2 years.
- Gummer : Sheep with all the incisor teeth missing.
- Hog: A lamb after weaning but before first shearing.
- Hogget : Young sheep for market which is more than one year age.
- Seggy : Castrated ram after service.
- Skip : Worthless ram
- Stag: A male sheep castrated after it has developed full secondary sexual characteristics.
- Weather: Castrated male sheep.
- Yearling: Sheep aged more than 2 years.
