Terminology related to cattle and Buffalo
- Breed:
- Developed by efforts of man.
- Have common ancestry
- Possess similar morphological, physiological and economic traits.
- Buller: A cow apparently always in heat, estrus, also known as Nymphomania.
3.Bullock or steer: Castrated male ox of over two years.
- Down calver: Dry but pregnant cow
- Dry cow: Cow that is not producing milk.
- Dry period: Non lactating days between lactations.
- Heifer: Young female cattle that hasn’t given birth
- Maiden heifer: Adult female that hasn’t been allowed to breed
- Open animal : A female animal that hasn’t breed.
- Slink calves: Calf that has been taken out from the womb of Pregnant cow .
- Springer: Term used for female cattle showing signs of advanced pregnancy.
- Stud bull: Bull that is used for breeding purpose.
- Yearling: Calf aged 1 to 2 years.
