About Lesson

Based on the type of fodder used for hay making, it is classified into 3 types:

  1. Legume hay:
  • Hay prepared from leguminous fodder crops are called legume hay.
  • Ex: Leucerne, Berseem, white clover
  • These type of hay contain excess protein, vitamins, minerals.
  1. Non-legume hay:
  • Hay prepared from non-leguminous fodder crops are called non-legume hay.
  • Ex: Sudan grass hay
  • These type of hay contains less nutritive content than legume hay.
  • They are less palatable and contains more carbohydrate.
  1. Mixed hay:
  • Hay prepared by mixing both legume and non-legume plant is called mixed hay.
