About Lesson
Based on the type of fodder used for hay making, it is classified into 3 types:
- Legume hay:
- Hay prepared from leguminous fodder crops are called legume hay.
- Ex: Leucerne, Berseem, white clover
- These type of hay contain excess protein, vitamins, minerals.
- Non-legume hay:
- Hay prepared from non-leguminous fodder crops are called non-legume hay.
- Ex: Sudan grass hay
- These type of hay contains less nutritive content than legume hay.
- They are less palatable and contains more carbohydrate.
- Mixed hay:
- Hay prepared by mixing both legume and non-legume plant is called mixed hay.
