Techniques in Urea Treatment of Straw:
- First, 100 kg of straw are spread over floor or circular board of 2 m.
- Then 4 kg urea is dissolved in 50 l water and sprayed over layered straw on floor.
- Urea solution and straw are then mixed thoroughly with hand fork (about 5-6 turning)
- Then mixed straw are stacked inside plastic sheet (gunny bag) with airtight cover to have anerobic condition.
- It is then left for 3 weeks to react.
- After 3 weeks, they are taken out of stack and 2-3 turnings is given so that excess ammonia gets evaporated in atmosphere.
- Color of straw will change from yellowish to dark brown. Treated straw is now ready to use.
