Soyabeans (Flemingia macrophylla):
- It is perennial leguminous fodder crop which can be grown from tropical to temperate climatic condition.
- This crop is used to control soil erosion, grown for green manure in mulching, to provide shade for Koka and to control weed, and many other purposes.
- It is also called glycin.
Climate and altitude:
- It can be grown in tropical to temperate climatic condition in Nepal.
- It can be grown from Terai to Mid-Hills of country (upto 2000m asl).
- It can be grown well in 20-40°C.
Soil:
- It can be cultivated in all types of soil.
- It can also fix nitrogen in acidic and low fertile land and improve their fertility.
Land preparation:
- Land are plowed 3-4 times to make soil fine and smooth.
- Weeds are collected and burned or buried underground.
Seed rate: 400-500 g/ha
Sowing season:
- Chaitra-Baisakh: seedling
- Jestha-Ashad: Seedling transplantation
Method of sowing:
- Seedling are prepared in nursery during month of Chaitra-Baisakh.
- These seedlings are then transplanted to main field in Jestha-Ashad @8000-10,000 seedlings/ha.
Fertilizer dose:
- Phosphorus: 50kg/ha
- Potash: 50 kg/ha
Harvesting Time:
- It can be cut after 2-3 months of sowing.
- Then subsequent cutting can be obtained at 2-3 month interval.
Production:
- Green fodder: 37 MT/ha
- Seed production: 125-200 kg/ha
