Very good silage

3.5-4.2

Should have acidic taste and odor, free from butyric acid, molds, sliminess

Good silage

4.2-4.5

Have slight acidic taste and odor, traces of butyric acid; ammonical nitrogen: 10-15% of total nitrogen

Fair silage

4.8 and above

Ensiled material with some butyric acid, slight proteolysis, some molds, ammonical nitrogen: 20% of total nitrogen.
