Kudzu (Pueraria phaseloides):
- It is perennial leguminous fodder found in tropical to temperate climatic conditions (Terai-Mid hills) of country
- It can give green fodder for upto 4-5 years, once planted.
- As it is crawling herb, it can be grown in upland, roadside, dikes of pond and slopy land.
Climate and altitude:
- It is grown in tropical to temperate climatic condition.
- It can be cultivated from Terai to Mid-Hills upto level of 1500m asl.
Soil:
- It can be grown in less fertile soil also.
- But sandy loam soil is best for cultivation.
- It cannot grow well in heavy clayey soil.
Land preparation:
- Field are ploughed 3-4 times with planking and harrowing to get fine soil.
- Weeds in field are buried underground or burnt on field.
Seed rate:
- For broadcasting: 15 kg/ha
- Seed-drill/line sowing: 5 kg/ha
Sowing season: Jestha-Ashad (June-July)
Method of sowing: Seeds are either broadcasted or sown in line.
Fertilizer dose:
- Nitrogen: 25 kg/ha
- Phosphorus: 60 kg/ha
Harvesting Time:
- 2 cuttings can be obtained from fodder.
- First cutting can be obtained after 3-4 months of sowing.
- Then, 2nd cutting is obtained after 6-8 weeks of first cutting.
Production:
- Green fodder: 4-12 MT/ha
- Seed Yield: 17000-30000 seeds/plant
