Joint Vetch (Aeschynomene falcate):

  • It is both annual and perennial leguminous fodder crop.
  • It is palatable to sheep, goat, cattle.
  • It can be grown in community green forest as pasture.
  • It can be grown in tropical to temperate climatic condition.

Climate and altitude:

  • It can be grown in tropical to temperate climatic condition.
  • It can be grown from terai to high-hills (upto 1200m asl)
  • Rainfall: 400-1500 mm annual
  • It can be best grown at 20-40°C

Soil type:

  • It can be cultivated in all soils.
  • Silty loam type of soil is suitable.
  • Water stagnation cannot be tolerated by this crop.

Land preparation:

  • 2-3 ploughing is needed to get well-prepared soil.
  • In minimum tillage, with little tillage, seeds are sown in field.

Seed rate:

  • Seed with hulls: 10-15 kg/ha
  • Processed seed: 5 kg/ha

Sowing season: Jestha- Ashad (June-July)

Method of sowing: By broadcasting seed

Fertilizer Dose:

  • Nitrogen- 25 kg/ha
  • Phosphorus- 60 kg/ha
  • Potash- 40 kg/ha

Irrigation:

  • Frequent irrigation is required in dry weather condition.

Harvesting time:

  • 1st cut should be taken in 75 days of seed sowing and then 1-month interval.
  • Total 3 cutting can be obtained, if irrigation available.

Production:

  • Green fodder: 35-40 MT/ha
  • Seed: 600-1500 kg/ha
