About Lesson
Centro (Centrosema pubescens):
- It is herbaceous, climbing, perennial herb.
- It is leguminous crop and also k/a butterfly pea.
- This crop can be cultivated in bunds in Pakhobari, raisers in Terrace Khet and fallow land.
- Fixes nitrogen @125-400 kg/ha
Climate and altitude:
- It can be grown from tropical to sub-tropical climatic conditions.
- It can be grown from terai to high hills (67-1500 m asl)
Soil:
- It can be cultivated in different soil type such as clayey soil, loamy soil.
Land preparation:
- Land should be ploughed 3-4 times to make soil fine and smooth.
- Weeds from land are removed and either buried or burnt during land preparation.
Seed rate: 3-5 kg/ha
Sowing season:
- Jestha-Ashad (June-July)
Method of sowing:
- Seeds are broadcasted.
Fertilizer Dose:
- Nitrogen: 25kg/ha
- Phosphorus: 60kg/ha
Irrigation: Irrigation is done, depending on soil moisture content.
Harvesting:
- First cutting are obtained after 3 month of sowing.
- Second cuttings are obtained at 45 days of first cutting
- 3-4 cuttings can be obtained.
Production:
- Green fodder yield: 40-50 MT/ha
- Seed production: 200-300 kg/ha
