About Lesson

Centro (Centrosema pubescens):

  • It is herbaceous, climbing, perennial herb.
  • It is leguminous crop and also k/a butterfly pea.
  • This crop can be cultivated in bunds in Pakhobari, raisers in Terrace Khet and fallow land.
  • Fixes nitrogen @125-400 kg/ha

Climate and altitude:

  • It can be grown from tropical to sub-tropical climatic conditions.
  • It can be grown from terai to high hills (67-1500 m asl)

Soil:

  • It can be cultivated in different soil type such as clayey soil, loamy soil.

Land preparation:

  • Land should be ploughed 3-4 times to make soil fine and smooth.
  • Weeds from land are removed and either buried or burnt during land preparation.

Seed rate: 3-5 kg/ha

Sowing season:

  • Jestha-Ashad (June-July)

Method of sowing:

  • Seeds are broadcasted.

Fertilizer Dose:

  • Nitrogen: 25kg/ha
  • Phosphorus: 60kg/ha

Irrigation: Irrigation is done, depending on soil moisture content.

Harvesting:

  • First cutting are obtained after 3 month of sowing.
  • Second cuttings are obtained at 45 days of first cutting
  • 3-4 cuttings can be obtained.

Production:

  • Green fodder yield: 40-50 MT/ha
  • Seed production: 200-300 kg/ha
