Few Terminologies

1. Scutellum: Reduced cotyledon and attached laterally to embryo.
2. Aleurone: Tissue contains protein and forms a sheath around the endosperm.
3. Choleriza: Thin hallow tube like structure that protects the radicle.
4. Vernalization:

• Exposure to low temperature.
• Hormone is vernaline.
• Leads to increase in gibberellic acid levels.

Types of seed

1. Breeder seed/ nucleus seed: White tag.
2. Foundation seed:

• Progeny of breeder seed.
• White tag.

3. Certified seed 1

• Tag with blue border.

4. Certified seed 2:

• Tag with green border.

5. Improved seed

• Yellow tag

6. Roughing:

• Removal of abnormal plant or average type of a variety.
