Types of pathogen dispersal

  • Anemochory: Dispersal of pathogen by wind.
  • Hydrochory: transmission of plant pathogen by water. Eg: Fusarium, Ganoderma, Macrophomina, Pythium, Phytophthora, Sclerotium, etc.
  • Splash dispersal: Dissemination by rain splash off and is efficient method of dispersal of bacterial plant pathogens. Eg: Green ear of bajra (Sclerospora graminicola) , Bacterial leaf streak of rice (Xanthomonas campestris var. oryzocola)
  • Spores adopted for short distance: Sporangia , conidia and basidiospores.
  • Spores adopted for long distance: Uredospores, Chlamydospores and Conidia.
