About Lesson
Integrated plant disease management (IPDM)
Component of IPDM
- Cultural practices
- Regulatory measures ( Quarantine)
- Chemical methods
- Biological methods
- Genetic engineering
Rice disease and IPDM
- Fungal disease
- Blast : Foliar disease and pathogen survive on collateral host
- Brown spot of rice: Seed borne and a foliar disease.
- Sheath rot, sheath blight, foot rot and stem rot: Soil borne disease
- False smut: Seed borne disease
Control
- Foliar spray of carbendazim @ 0.1% or tricyclazone @ 0.06% for blast.
- Foliar spray of validamycin for sheath blight and sheath rot.
- Carbofuran granules decrease viral disease.
Sugarcane disease and IPDM
- Red rot: Sett borne disease and spreads through irrigation water.
- Whip smut: Sett borne and spreads through wind borne sporidia.
- Pine apple disease, sett rot: Sett borne disease.
- Grassy shoot: Vector borne phytoplasmal disease.
- Ratton stunting: Sett borne ( Clavibactor xyli).
- Sugarcane mosaic: Survives on weeds and disseminated by insects vectors.
Control
- Hot water treatment of setts ( 520C for 30 min.)
- Hot air treatment of setts ( 540C for 2-3 hrs.)
Green muscadine
- Caused by Nomuraea rileyi and Metarhizium spp.
- At death, larva turns white and within few days gets covered with bright green fungal coating.
White muscadine
- Caused by Beauveria bassiana.
- Larva is mummified and gets covered by white powdery conidia.
- Brown plant hopper is prone to this disease.
