Introduction
- Term coined by Auguste Comte.
- Competition: Opposing one another to attain the goal only one can entertain.
- Conflict: Eliminating opponent to reach a goal.
- Accommodation: Developing working agreement between conflicting group.
Types of Family
A) Family based on authority:
a) Equalitarian family:
- Husband and wife exercise a more or less equal amount of authority.
b) Matricentric family:
- In absence of father, mother get a dominant position in the family.
B) Family based on descent:
a) Patrilineal descent:
- Person with a group of relatives who are related to him through father.
b) Matrilineal descent:
- Person with a group of relatives who are related to him through mother.
C) Based on residence:
a) Patrilocal (Sasurali ma jane):
- Lives near domicile of the parents of bridegroom.
b) Matrilocal (Ghar jwai):
- Lives near the domicile of the parents of Bride.
c) Bilocal :
- Gives choice of staying with either the groom parent or bride parents.
d) Neolocal:
- Lives near maternal uncle of the groom or bride.
e) Avuneulocal:
- Lives near the uncle of the groom.
