Some facts to remember
- Iris famine ( 1845-1849) was caused by late blight of potato ( Phytophthora infestans).
- Bengal famine ( 1943) was caused by brown spot of rice ( Helminthosporium oryzae).
- Coffee rust is caused by Hemilia vastatrix.
- Soil inhabitants: Pythium (Damping off) , Rhizoctonia ( root rot) and Sclerotium (Sclerotium blight).
- Root inhabitants : Fusarium , Verticillium.
- Rhizosphere colonizers / Leaf mould in tomato: Cladosporium fulvum.
- Increased Nitrogen means increased susceptibility and increased potassium means decreased susceptibility.
- Bacteria don’t have any dormant strucures.
- Rhizomorphs : Aggregation of hyphae into rope like strands.
- Opines can be metabolized only by Agrobacteria.
