Relationship of agrometeorology with other areas of agricultural sciences

  • Agrometeorology is an interdisciplinary science in which the main scientific disciplines involved are atmospheric sciences and soil sciences which are concerned with the physical and chemical environment and plant sciences and animal sciences (including their pathology, entomology and parasitological etc.) which dealt with the contents of the biosphere.
  • Though interdisciplinary in nature, Agrometeorology is now a well science. Its subject matter links together the physical environment and biological responses under natural conditions.
  • Agrometeorology deals with all the weather sensitive elements of agricultural production (Sowing – intercultural operation – harvest – storage – transport – distribution – consumption).
  • From production to consumption, all are weather sensitive. Agrometeorology now relies on a package of new tools, which define ‘modern agrometeorology’.
  • It includes data acquisition techniques (ground observation, air crafts and satellite), data transmission techniques (including internet), and data analysis (model or other software).
